Wow, I can’t believe my time at York is coming to an end! For the past five years I have spent my time working, playing, and competing here. York is where I learned to express myself, where I gained confidence in myself, and where I discovered how I want to proceed in the upcoming years. I am going to miss the candid conversations with teachers and the excellent camaraderie I experience with my fellow classmates. However, I am also ecstatic to be moving on to my next adventure. In a bit over a month I will be reporting to Cadet Basic Training at the United States Military Academy. For six weeks I will learn the basics of being a soldier before transitioning into the academic year. I will then build on the lessons I learned at York in order to become a qualified Army officer. I am incredibly humbled by the opportunity to attend this historic institution and even more grateful for all of the people who helped me earn the honor. Nobody at York ever discouraged me, in fact, they did the exact opposite: my teachers, counselors, and friends supported me the entire way. I had so many opportunities to become not only a better candidate for West Point, but a better person in general. Through the robotics team, sports teams, student government, and yearbook I have met truly fantastic and passionate people who inspire me daily to do my best. So, yes, I am sad to be leaving; but I am even more excited to see what’s next.
