One of York’s most important values is community. York has excellent academic, artistic, and social communities but we also have a wonderful sports community as well. York’s water polo team, while maybe not the best team in California, is an excellent example of this value. I started playing water polo last year as a freshman and I brought absolutely no experience to the table. The roughness of the sport was intimidating and often seemed impossible to deal with. However, I was given a massive opportunity to learn and grow within the sport. The more experienced players were always willing to help or critique my form and the team as a whole supported each other. This community motivated me to join club and attempt to improve my impact on the team. In the Junior Varsity tournament this year the JV team did very well and Varsity won the first game of the season. With the support of the team the new players are drastically improving and hopefully this cycle will continue upwards for many years to come.
