York is totally different when it comes to the day of Fall Fair. School spirit fills the air. Booths are set up for food, drinks, and games by our classes, clubs, and sports. Awesome music plays in the background by our talented musicians. All trouble melts away on the sunny hilltop with the joyful laughter of students, teachers, friends, and families. However, when looking beneath the surface, tremendous work is required beforehand and it is a learning experience.
In my freshman year at Fall Fair, I sold boba tea with Asian Culture Club. I felt exhausted, but extremely happy from our success in selling and promoting our club.
Last year, I became involved as Executive Student Council secretary and club president for Project LIGHT. Fall Fair became a lot of work, but a great learning process. As secretary, I helped with promoting Fall Fair. A lot is put into making sure everything will go smoothly and I learned a lot about planning a large event with this process. As Project LIGHT president, it was super exciting to come up with our own original idea of rag ball soccer to simulate the situations of the Rwandan orphans we help. Running a booth was harder than I expected. Starting with ideas, developing a game, getting materials, making the booth, and making sure the shifts are covered, phew! In the end, all that work paid off as
One thing I’ve learned since my arrival freshman year is that pushing beyond limits and having fun during the challenge is what York is all about.
